We were thrilled to welcome over 50 partners from Buckinghamshire & Milton Keynes to our Partner Forum in June 2024.

System change is integral to our mission, which recognises that physical activity levels are affected by a complex system of influences and no single organisation or programme can create sustainable change at scale.

Mark Ormerod (Leap CEO) began by welcoming a packed room. Chris Gregory (Leap Head of Strategic Relationships) and Graeme Sinnott (Relationships Director, Active Partnerships National Team), followed with an overview of what is system change, and system thinking. You can revisit the explainer video from GM Moving at the foot of this page.

Luton was one of three national System Change pilots funded by Sport England. Clare Fitzboydon and Emma Hunter from Be Active shared their testing and learnings in Luton to embed movement and physical activities to within the Children’s Services and now Adult Social Care departments.

Their pilot focused on:

  • Educating the role of and value that physical activity brings in improving life chances.
  • Spent time with key people; managers, officers, elected members, service users, those with lived experiences.
  • Aligned strategic thinking to demonstrate that it would impact positively on Luton 2040 and Marmot Town status and outcomes.
  • Invested resource that allowed them to embed the work within and alongside Children’s Services and YPSP.

Street Games Chelsea Piggott presented on how secondary level ‘SportPlus’ interventions are providing positive activities to young people at risk of entering the criminal justice system. They are strategically growing the number of high-quality sport provisions in Thames Valley’s most deprived and vulnerable communities to contribute to the prevention of violence.

After a short movement break, Chris Gregory and Victoria Pudney, Can Move instructor in Aylesbury, brought to life how a distributed leadership model and shared responsibility across key stakeholders collaborated to improve the lives of residents with a cancer diagnosis.
