The William Wates Memorial Trust, a small registered charity set up in 1998, offers grants to other registered charities and not-for-profit organisations for projects that help the most disadvantaged young people aged 5-19 to fulfill their potential and stay away from a a life of crime.

Who Can Apply

Registered charities and not-for-profit enterprises working in London or the South East of England can apply.

Although the Trust primarily supports projects in London and the South East of England, it will consider nationwide projects that are proposed by its Le Loop Riders.

To be eligible, applicants should have no more than 60% of their turnover from public service contracts or other commissioned work.

Eligible Expenditure

Funding is projects that enable young people experiencing disadvantage to fulfil their potential.

The Trust will look favourably on projects that continue to:

  • Have impact after the Trust’s support has ended. For example, helping a young person get a coaching qualification is preferable to facilitating that same young person to play football once a week.
  • Support individuals long after specific (sometimes intensive) projects come to an end. This may be done in house or through connections with other local organisations.

How To Apply

There are typically two funding rounds per year.

The next deadline for applications is 28 February 2025.

Guidelines and an online application form are available on the Trust’s website.
